Beyond Space & Time

Well, Atlas was glad at least that they didn't have to fight something so powerful, but they were up against an even more formidable adversary: a library. She groaned and rubbed her forehead, looking around at the mountains of information around them. A part of her felt a small thrill at the prospect of gathering new information, and she looked down at her bracelet to the amethyst stone that had the bluest hue. Leo's stone. He would have loved an opportunity like this. She would do this and enjoy it, for him. "Better get started!" she said, all chipper, as she reached for the nearest book.

"No duh," Atlas said, getting up and taking a few leaps before she could become airborne alongside Wolfie. She had been able to collect some useful information, probably thanks to Leo's propensity to study well, so hopefully she could be of use.

Atlas remembered Leo talking about something when he was coming to the end of his life. It was about an author called Lovelace- no, Lovecraft, who talked about something called Eldritch Horror. Creatures that were so big and cosmic that they melted the mind. He'd told Atlas about it to kind of warn her in case she ever encountered one in her immortal life. And now here she was encountering not one but two of these things. She had to avert her gaze before she could think about too much, and turned to Wolfie. "W-W-Wolfie," she breathed. "Th-there's two of them." She felt breathless and dizzy from such a brief exposure. How was she going to fight these things?!

Despite Atlas' panic, she shook her head and refused to leave with Pluck. "I want to help you," she said. "I can help!" She didn't know how, but she knew some things about Vulcan thanks to the reading she'd been doing.

Atlas understood what he meant by it, but still! "I did some reading up! I know how I can help," she said. "And I'll stay out of the way. Please?"

"Uh huh, no way am I ever looking at that thing again," agreed Atlas easily. And if Wolfie was anything like that, she didn't want to see him either, even though it was Wolfie. "How are you gonna hear me when you're all big and scary?"

Atlas got a good look deep into Wolfie's eyes as he did that, and shivered afterwards. "So long as you don't read my thoughts forever," she said, rubbing her forehead. "Are... Are you gonna be okay, Wolfie?" she asked more quietly. Despite how powerful Wolfie was and the fact he'd done this before, Wolfie still didn't want him to get hurt.

Atlas slowly took Wolfie's hand. "Can you even 'perish'?" she asked him unsurely. She didn't want to know if Wolfie could actually die, but for her whole life she'd assumed he just couldn't. She would do her best to ensure Wolfie ended this as quickly as possible so he didn't get hurt.

"Yes, I will," Atlas said, and she was reluctant to let go of his hand. "Be careful, okay?" This was much more serious than anything they'd faced yet, even the massacre at the spa, because there was much more of a threat to Wolfie's safety.

Atlas yelped and covered her ears. They were already sensitive enough but that had been so loud that she felt her eardrums vibrating so hard they were almost popping. It stunned her, even. She fumbled around for something, anything, to jam into her ears to soften the blow of the next shriek or boom, and then went to find some sort of safe place where she could continue to read and feed Wolfie more information.

"How you doing, Wolfie?" Atlas thought to him as she read over yet another book. [I have no idea what kind of information to put though.]

[You're so helpful.] Atlas grimaced at the sound of him shrieking in her head. That could hardly be good. She didn't ever want to hear him being hurt again. "Okay, Wolfie? There should be a light coming from its chest - or chests. Seems an obvious target but go for it. That's where its power source is. It'll be difficult but you need to destabilise it, then it will lose its whole form - or forms."

"I don't think loud soundwaves would be strong enough!" Atlas cautioned Wolfie. No matter how loud he was about to be, it probably wouldn't be the right kind of destabilisation. But maybe she was underestimating him? So she covered her ears anyway.
