Project Genesis

Ugh! Mary didn't have anything suitable for a baby in here, and she didn't even know if this baby could drink milk from a human or a cow or whatever. The only thing she could think of that would be suitable for a being with no teeth and not used to swallowing yet was one of Victor's yogurts. That made ate way too many of them, so he had a decent stash in their fridge. Mary picked out the blandest flavour, vanilla, tore off the lid and looked around for a spoon. No, she had no idea how Jenny would react to metal either. She had no idea about anything! Sighing, Mary sat and put the yogurt on her desk, dunked her finger in it, and held it up to Jenny's face. "Try this."

Oh god, Mary's ovaries were doing cartwheels and banshee shrieks all at once. What a beautiful, adorable creature. Mary continued to feed her and watch her, utterly mesmerised as any mother would be by her baby... Even if that wasn't their relationship. Eventually Mary managed to position herself so that she arm that was holding Jenny was also feeding her, though it was a bit of a strain, while she reached for an empty notebook. Huh, funny, the book was red like Jenny's eyes. She left the front page blank, and on the second page wrote a list header: "Okay To Eat." The first entry on the list was: "Vanilla Yogurt." On the next page she jotted another list header: "Not Okay To Eat", just in case. And then she went back to feeding Jenny until all the yogurt was gone.

Mary noted this but didn't write it down. She slowly reached towards the camera and turned it on, silently filming the sleeping Jenny in her arms. She looked so, so adorable. Her heart was pounding and her uterus was figuratively on its knees weeping as she just stared at her sleeping. When she turned the camera off and put it down again, she cradled her in both arms and slowly started to fall asleep herself...

Mary was bleary eyed when she woke up, but she felt a tiny hand on her face. "Oh yeah, you're here," she said to Jenny as her surroundings became more clear. There was the sound of approaching footsteps. Damn, what was the time? It was morning! Victor was coming back! Hastily she got up and opened a large drawer. "Sorry baby, I gotta hide you," she said, quickly but gently putting the baby in the drawer with some blankets and shutting it.

Mary stood up a little too fast and smiled a little too widely. "Uh, h-hi Vic!" she greeted her longtime friend too enthusiastically. Ugh, shit, she was a brainiac but she was no actress. "Y-yeah it was... Oddly comforting spending one more night in this failure of a room. Haha!" She realised Jenny might start crying and began to think of ways to get rid of Victor.

Thinking fast, while Victor had his back turned, Mary tugged off her undies and threw them to a spot near to him. She then darted over and grabbed them as if she'd been hiding them. "Ah, uh, I-I stip in my sleep," she blurted out. "And I slept here. S-so I stripped. Haha!" She was a weirdo so Victor'd buy it - right?

Play it cool, Mary, play it cool! She was sweating beads now but she looked a bit less suspicious this time as she said "oohoohooh~ it's a ghoooost~!" She waggled her fingers as she walked over to the drawer where Jenny was and opened it, blocked Victor's view. "Oohoohooh scary ghost in here ooohhh~! Pfft, it's nothing, something just fell over." She shut the drawer again but kept it open a little, turning to Victor and grinning but still keeping herself between him and the drawer.

Mary held Jenny's hand in hers behind her back and shrugged at Victor. "Did what we always do, you know? Incinerate it. No point keeping another failure around." Said failure was right behind her now, exhibiting basic human emotions and bordering-on complex motor functions and being utterly adorable about it. "Stop freaking out, Vic. You're just sad that we're leaving."

"No problem," Mary said, slumping back slightly. "I, uh, I'm gonna stay. Feeling sentimental for some reason." Victor probably thought that Mary was having a mental breakdown from that, because she was the opposite of sentimental. She wiggled her finger slightly in Jenny's mouth, ready to pounce on the little baby and coo once Victor was gone.

Mary waited a little while before sagging in relief and sighing out loud. She turned quickly and scooped Jenny up, oohing and cooing at the baby girl. "Would you stop being so cute when I'm trying to hide you?!" she simpered, not meaning a word of it really. She let Jenny suck on her finger as much as she liked, while she went over to the fridge and fished out the last of Victor's vanilla yoghurt. She'd have to get her some more food soon, and that meant maybe leaving her alone. Hmm, perhaps she should tell Vic after all... This time while she fed Jenny, she slowly spun her around and jiggled her about, playing with her.

"Ow. Owie, careful there," Mary cautioned, trying to get Jenny's tail to stop constricting her leg a bit painfully. This tail might be a problem when Jenny was older and bigger. But for now she was the perfect little bundle of weird wonder. Though, she wondered how long the tail was in comparison to her body sized. So when she was done eating, she lay her down and measured her head to tail. She probably should have done this the night before but was too starstruck.

"Oh my god," Mary whispered, hastily getting the camera and filming Jenny writhing and smiling. "Only a day old and she's already smiling and gesturing like a much older infant," she said. This needed to be recorded first, and then when she had it filmed, she swooped down and picked Jenny up. "You're so clever," she cooed, rubbing her cheek on Jenny's. "Yes you are. You're Mary's clever little girl." She stopped cooing when she'd realised what she'd said. That was something she'd used to say when...
