Mary and Jenny had cultivated a small farm and they sold their produce at local markets, which made them enough to conflate her savings and give them something to do. Mary was utterly content, but she knew her beautiful daughter was pining for more out of life. It was understandable. The pair of them had managed to go on some adventures in the countryside, and to nearby cities, so long as she covered her tail. They usually pretended Jenny's face markings were makeup and got away with it. Mary just wished that Jenny would be happy with her, but she understood why she wasn't...

Jenny was reading a magazine that she talked Mary into buying for her from the teen scene when Mary suddenly got a call. It was odd for her to get a call at this time, but maybe someone needed something last minute from the farm. However when she answered it was a voice she had not heard in quite a long time. It was her and Victors assistant, Bethanie. She would often help around the lab, getting them equipment and even chiming in on a few formulas. She actually had been the one to help Mary get her cottage, not really asking many questions. “Mary? Thank goodness I finally got through to you.” Bethanie said.

Mary hadn't let anyone in on their plans at all, that would have been so unsafe, especially since she'd not seen Bethanie in so long even before she'd decided to move out with Jenny. And Bethanie had always had a thing for Victor. So the fact that she'd found this number was so disturbing. Mary panicked and slammed the phone down immediately.

The phone of course rang again, and chances are it was probably Bethanie. “Who was that mom?” Jenny asked Mary, confused by what she just did.

"Someone I used to work with," Mary said, thinking fast. Ugh, what did she do? She let it ring a bit longer before picking up. "Th-this is the voicemail of... Farmer Bob," she rasped in a really bad, fake man voice. "Arr? Leave a message... I'm farmer Bob! Beep!" That was the dumbest thing she'd ever done, probably.

“Thats probably the dumbest thing you’ve ever said Mary.” Bethanie said, of course not falling for it. “I know you’re probably not happy to hear from me, but I needed to tell you something. Victor has involved himself in something crazy, and I think he’s using the reasearch you both worked on.” Bethanie said.

Mary was so, so, so close to hanging up on the girl again, but the old phone was super loud so she overheard the name she didn't want to hear just as it hovered over the machine. She raised it to her ear again and didn't say anything, just listened for whatever Bethany had to say.

Bethanie didnt hear a dial tone, so she assumed Mary was still on the line. “Victor has been acting very strange and meeting with some really shady people lately. He wont tell me what he’s working on but I managed to find out it has something to do with genetic manipulation. Hes making something, and I thought maybe you’d know more about it.” She said.

Mary had no idea what it might be, as she'd not seen Victor in years and she had no idea that Victor had taken a sample from Jenny. Was this is? Bethany had nothing useful to say? She had put her and Jenny's safety on the line for... Nothing? Mary was about to hang up again.

“Mary I...I dont know what happened between you and victor. But he is always saying he is going to make something better. Better than what you did. Its consumed him and Im scared of what he might do. Or what he’s done.” Bethany said to Mary.

Finally something useful. Mary rolled her eyes and ground her teeth together. If Victor was making a better Jenny, and he had tried to do horrid things to Jenny... "This is all just hearsay," she grumbled in her normal voice. "And what exactly could I do?"

“I...I thought maybe you could use your credibility to explain that what he’s doing is unethical. It’s based off your research so they would probably believe you if you made a case.” Bethany said.

Mary couldn't help scoffing down the phone. "Goodbye Bethany," she said as she began to put down the phone. This was ridiculous, the girl came to her with wild theories and put them at risk, and then told her he would stop doing whatever because of ethics?

“Th-this could seriously be bad Mary! I know you still care about people. Please help me stop Victor.” Bethanie said to her. Jenny was looking very concerned about whatever it was that Mary was speaking about with Bethanie. Was something bad happening?

Mary grumbled and scowled. She didn't want to get anywhere near Victor, or any human being really, it was just her and Jenny now. But then she glanced at Jenny and realised... There might be others Jennies out there right now, with Victor, having god knows what done to them. It wasn't right to know about this and do nothing. "Ugh... Where will I find him?" she asked Bethany.

“We can meet up at the cafe near the old lab and I can take you to where he is. Ill be able to sneak you in so we can Fix what he’s done. THank you Mary.” Bethanie.

"Tell me where he is," Mary snapped, getting very frustrated by how Bethany was constantly skirting around the subject rather than give her the exact information she needed.

Bethany was confused because she just said she would take Mary to where he was...She just gave Mary the location., which was a very high end science lab that Mary and Victor had talked about owning one day. “I suppose Ill meet you there instead.” Bethany said to Mary.

Bethany hadn't told her where it was, just that they would meet at a cafe near the old lab which wasn't giving away the location at all. "Bethany," she said coldly.

Bethany literally just gave Mary the location so she had no idea why Mary was acting so coldly. So she just told Mary what time they should meet and then hung up. “What’s going on?” Jenny asked Mary after she got off the phone.

Mary hung up on Bethany, and turned to Jenny with a dark look. "I'm going to have to go somewhere," she said quietly, pulling Jenny into her arms and kissing the top of her head. "I don't know how long I'll be but it's important. That bad man is... Doing bad things, and I have to figure what and how to stop him."

Mary's lower lip wobbled. "I didn't protect you once," she said. "Like hell am I deliberately putting you in danger this time." But Jenny was right and they both knew it. Jenny had learned self defence and she had learned it well; her physicality and tail were well suited for fighting, though she had never had to do it. If they were going to bust into this place, they would need Jenny's skills.
